3RD WORLD AMERICA
The Looks On Their Faces
As I watched Wednesday night’s State of The Union Address, I couldn’t help but notice the looks of dismay and worry on the faces of many of the Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen. I think they know something about America that much of the population is unaware of; and this, I think is what’s on their minds: America may be slowly becoming a Third World Country. We understand that underdeveloped countries experience lack of resources such as; food, water, medicine, electricity, heat and shelter. Although I don’t think they went strait to third world country images in there minds. I do think they are worried about the lack of resources in America now. I think this causes them to wonder could it happen to us here in America. I noticed the looks of fear on their faces. And if many of you take the time to either remember or watch a video of the event. You will notice that between the jokes the President told, you will see for yourselves what I’m talking about. Think back in history. When have you ever seen a Congress as a whole look the way they did Wednesday night. I have never seen that before in 46 years of my life on earth; and I note that I was raised in a home that was very politically and socially inclined. As a child I was well versed in the political and social events of the times. My father did not let one night go by with out watching NBC’s nightly news with Chet Huntley and David Brinkly. So I have seen my share of State of The Union Addresses over the years. I also noticed the President during a speach about a week ago in Elyria Ohio grasping for words. This was unusual for him. I remember thinking that he knows that this economy is failing and he does not know how to stop it. I believe the President has stepped up his town hall appearances in an effort to assure the public in America that he is doing his best to lead this country out of it’s current crises. I have no doubt that he is doing his best, but I think that the problems that America currently faces are much larger then the Presidents scoop of control. Many people think in America that being a President is the ultimate assignment. We look to the President to solve all of our problems in America. We choose a President based loosely on the assumption that he will do just that; take control of the resources, the schools, the businesses, the local governments and the utility sources. And change the course of future events for our country for the good. And If they where good in the prior Presidency, then we expect the President to continue the prosperity of the country. This is a myth that has not yet been exposed to the general public. This is because when politicians run for office they tell the public that they are the ones that will solve the problems that the public currently faces. Have you noticed that we are running through politicians now like old stacked up magazines; but we still are having the same problems. Again I reiterate that I believe that President Barack Obama is doing his best for our country but I want to point out that The President and Congress are seeing something in this country that they are having no control over. And that is things are getting worst. I know that somethings are in the scoop of their office. For instance when they gave the bailout money to the large corperations and to the banks under the last Presidential administration. I was thinking; that will not jump start the economy.
The Reason The Bailouts Did Not Work
The reason why the government bailouts did not work is; the banks are a business entity. And most business entities in America are not concerned with peoples needs. That is the work of government. They are concernd with their share holders wants and the wants of their upper level management positions. I say wants, because this group of people have their needs met already. The only thing these two groups of a business want to know is. Are they going to be around in the future? Do they have to shut down the company? Do they have to reorganize the company; or do they have to scale down operations? If they have to close the day to day operations of a business they generally; except for some sentimental reasons in the case of family owner-operator businesses: will not have any remorse. The reason is generally the officers of a corperation have secured for themselves via large bonuses and salaries; a vast amount of wealth for their future. I believe that most of the time the heads of corperations that go under merely start another business in the same or different field. Some using the connections, bonuses and severance packages from the failed business they operated into failure. Thus the matter of bonuses for a failing corperate entity should have been addressed before any tax payer money was given to any businesses. This issue should have been for seen by Congress and both Presidents-Bush and Obama. The way businesses operate in America are very well documented. The politicians should have know that there would be bailout money taken as bonuses because this is normal business practise in America.
A Failing Bank Does Not Loan Money
I also want to point out that if the government gives a failing bank money they will not loan that money out. They are conserned with their bottom line. And their day to day operations. They want to keep operating their business. The banks were and still to this day are afraid to loan out the bailout money they recieved for the government. President Obama is working on this issue today, but the problem is again he in and of himself has little to no juridictional control of the corperations the government has given money to. That is part of the reason the economy is not recovering. The money that the banks have from the government is being kept for the solvency of the bank.
I believe that the way the economy could have been jump started is give the bailout money to the poor and middle class. The poor and the middle class have so many needs that the first thing they would have done is spend the money. They would have put the money right back into the structure of the economy. That would have fueled the need for goods and services and this would have started the need for employers to hire people for jobs. In essence the general population would have hired themselves by spending the money.
Corperate America Has Shot Themselves In The Foot
The business world in America has done the proverbial [shot themselves in the foot]. Rich people measure wealth in the form of time. How much time can I live in the world before my resources run out. The key word in the last sentence is [ I ]. They have kept the emphasis on [ I ]. Only in this case they have helped to run the economy into the ground with this behavior. Poor and middle class people spend money because they always have needs. Thus the money would have been put right back into the economy as soon as the poor and middle class recieved the money. Thus boosting the ecomonic cycle. Rich people hold money in the form of investments and savings because they have their needs met and their wants are met as well. They generally spend money at a slower rate unless they have some issues with excess or extravagance. Like owning 16 yachts or something like that.
Tricle down economics does not work. When you give money to the rich the money does not tricle down to the general public. Because rich people generally measure wealth in the form of assets used over time versus amount of assets; so they retain and invest currency versus spend currency.
The Republicans Are Wrong And The Democrats Are Wrong-What Now
The Republicans have believed for years that if corperate America was allowed to regulate itself that will make the economy better. This is wrong. Many of the corperations in America today have syphoned off money and held it for the purpose of making sure that the corperation runs well. And also for the personal gain of the upper level management and share holders. I’m not saying that there are no companies that are legitimately doing bad. I’m describing what I believe is the way we have arrived at this crises and some of the companies are still following this practise because they are afraid of going out of business.
This brings me back to my original point. The President and Congress know something about this country’s situation that they are not tell us. I think they see the fear of corperate America. The fear of the cep trying to hold on to what business he can. I think they believe that if corperate America falls the counrty falls; much like the Crash of 1929. That is the frustration I see. That no matter what they are doing we are still in this situation.
The Democrats are having trouble switching out of their regular practise of agenda motivated politics. They are still trying to carry out the agendas that they stated in the previous campaign cycle. The Democrats have an issue with running their offices as if they are still running for the office they are now in. They are still campaigning instead of managing. And pretty soon they will not have President Bush to blame for everything that is going on today.
The Democratic Party is still concerned with Agenda Based Politics. They have not switched into the mode of Situation Based Politics. There is a difference. Every one of the various agenda groups of America have these things in common. The need for; food, shelter and clothing. People want to know that things are going to be well in America.
Situation Based Politics VS. Agenda Based Politics
The Republican Party is doing to the Democratic Party the same thing the Democratic Party did to them when President Bush was in office and they had the majority in the House and Senate. They are obstructing the agenda of the Democratic Party. The only problem with this is that todays problems are not agenda based problems they are situation based problems. The Democratic Party must give up Agenda Based Politics and manage the various situations that are going on in the country today. And if they do that, then the Republicans must notice the difference and not try to obstruct a Situational Based Political Bill in the House or Senate. They must not fall into the mistake that a Situational Based Political Bill will shore up the Democratic power base.
Conclusion
I submit to you that things are not going to be well in America’s future until both political parties learn to work together and put money directly into the hands of the poor and middle class consumers. Also corperate America must put money back into the hands of the general public via higher wages and bank loans to the poor and middle class working American. For now both parties are not making the right moves.
